Ouija Boards, Crystal Balls & The Clueless!

I am fortunate enough to meet many people from the paranormal world from all capacities. Beginning in 1970 as a skeptic and non-believer, to having the experiences detailed in my book ‘True Haunting’ changed my whole belief system. Further studies and associations with others gifted and knowledgeable expanded my acceptance of what might be encountered. Today, I almost believe we have gone backwards in our views. Understand that the paranormal and ghosts have existed for over 1000 years, yet I encounter people that only rely on technology that is unproven and in its infancy. I meet those that believe they can ‘order’ from the paranormal like they would Chinese food. Some say, Yes, I believe in Shadow people, no I don’t believe in Orbs, Yes, I believe in this ‘technical gizmo’ but no I don’t believe in Ouija boards. They will pick and choose what suits them and discount all other forms of possible evidence. I have seen conflict between investigation teams debunking each other, which I find ridiculous since their goals are the same.

I can only share what I know to be true and that which has touched my life or those close to me. Putting yourself in a vulnerable state of mind is dangerous. Spirits or worse, can and will take advantage. They are very opportunistic. When doing martial arts, I was warned by an exorcist not to participate in the level of meditation necessary to separate mind and body, which is used in situations of breaking objects. Yes, you can have ‘walk ins.’ It does not matter if it is a Ouija board or a teddy bear, if your intent is making a connection with the unknown. The only difference in a Ouija board is that you are inviting two-way communication. The mentality that one can control who they communicate with is laughable. If I were a warden and threw a cell phone into the prison yard and announced, “Whoever comes up with it…can use it.” Who do you think that might be? Well there is no difference in spirit communication. Create the opening and it will be the strongest spirit taking control….and they lie.

I do understand today’s skepticism. Hollywood alone has created expectations that are unrealistic. I have met more psychics, mediums and empaths to fill a stadium, yet when claiming they can communicate, why aren’t they asking the questions that would expand our knowledge of that dimension? Their answers could be compared and corroborated to possibly yield knowledge. I myself am old school. I rely on my senses. Having lived with various spirits I am conditioned to the signals your body will send. I have recommended a simple pulse/ox meter worn on one’s finger, because assuming you are a professional and do not have the adrenaline rush of a thrill seeker or newbe, your pulse with rise preparing your fight or flight instinct before you even can feel it. Your body will know whether something is there and begin an evaluation which will raise your pulse 10-20 beats even if the entity is benign. Investigators should know their job is difficult, because they are only looking for certain types of phenomena. They will never catch the flicker of a candle, or the movement in the drapes, much less the slight breeze from nowhere or the scent of something inappropriate to their surroundings. How do you prove that overwhelming feeling that you are being watched? Open your understanding and realize that you are severely limited on two counts. One, the evidence you expect to capture is a rather narrow spectrum. Two, the average time spent does not allow the spirits to build energy and go beyond subtle activity. Most of all, remember something that I find hypocritical. The stronger the evidence, the more likely it will be debunked. If you capture a solid apparition, it will not be frightening and appear as a normal person. If you capture a strong audible voice, good luck getting people to believe it. Happy hunting…..stay safe!

Let’s Get Serious!

I have watched and experienced the paranormal for near 50 years. It honestly pains me that not much more is known than was in 1970. Marsha and I have seen a solid apparition, have heard audible voices and sounds, and have witnessed objects propelled, so much of what we see today on TV is not impressive. I must first state I admire many of the investigation teams, but let’s be honest, most are motivated by a chance at being in the media, or at the adrenaline rush and thrills. Possibly even bragging rights. In the United Kingdom, there are 40 listed at Paranormal Societies.com. However in the United States, there are over 2000. There are a 1000 more scattered from Australia to Brazil. To what end? I personally have heard hundreds of EVP’s and have yet to hear any series of questions that I might ask if I could communicate with a spirit. In fact, some of the communication is absurd. Investigators must go after the answers in information that can force the paranormal forward. If I were a radio host and had a ghost for guest, the questions would go something like this.

1- Can you see me?

2- Are you limited to where you can travel, or are you bound to that location?

3- Is it light or dark where you are?

4- Are there others there with you?

5- If/so, Can you communicate with each other.

6- What is your name?

7- Can/do you feel emotion? Fear? Sadness? Hostility?

8- Is it hot or cold where you are?

9- Can I feed you energy?

10- Do you know you are dead?

11- How did you die?

12- What keeps you there?

13- How long have you been there?

14- Will you get to leave? Or. Do you want to?

15- Do you believe in God?

16- Is there a sense of time at all?

17- Can you read my mind or sense my intentions?

18- Can you manifest as a shadow? Why? Why not?

19- Can or have you ever appeared solid?

20- Are there beings with you or near you that not spirits? Demons?

21- Can I help you in any way?

You will see this list that I did randomly without much thought and easily re-sequence it and add to it. In asking these questions, they would have to be verified by asking the same exact questions in the same exact sequence at another active location so answers could be compared, because far too many spirits will lie. By the way, if a spirit indicates it can freely move about, get the hell out of there for you do not a friend following you home! Wouldn’t it be a revelation if an investigator could simply answer a few of these. Try to bring something to the table that would expand our knowledge and understanding. Imagine hearing, “It is cold here. There is no time, I am bound. I can see others.” These are the EVP’s I would like to hear to have a better understanding of what we are dealing with. Just verifying that we can communicate has been done…..and done…..and done? It is time to get serious about accumulating real knowledge! I am old, so maybe there is a logic I don’t understand, but 3000 teams all asking the same light weight questions makes no sense that I can see.

Tunnel Vision

Raven's Retreat

Drakelow TunnelsGetting lost, horribly lost, a car crash with a twatapus and misbehaving in tunnels. It can only be Calamityville Horror’s next episode.

We teamed up again with Jack and Laura from Jack and Laura’s Ghost Series. Check them out here: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. They regularly attend ghost hunts with South Bristol Paranormal and they invited us to Drakelow Tunnels. This place has become a huge hit recently with ghost hunters and we were more excited than Jason Vorhees on Thursday the 12th. Drakelow TunnelsThen everything started to go wrong. Badly wrong. In fact, this was the most disastrous episode in Calamityville history. And not a single damn bit of it was filmed. Our standards have really slipped. No, wait, that implies the show had standards to begin with. We were running late. Neen’s hairdressing appointment ended up taking 3 hours as her usual hairdresser was away. Then we had to…

Keep Paranormal Real!

I am in a unique position within the world of paranormal. I can clearly see the separation between the entertainment industry and what is truly paranormal. There is a war going on and I believe paranormal investigators should fight back and take control over what is real and what is fantasy. In my case, I am dealing with two mega-industries. First, the movie industry wants to make True Haunting into a film. Really? The answer so far is no. In my third year of negotiating, I still have no trust in how they will distort our story. Though they have plenty of room for imaging, it is almost insisted that things be added simply because they want to add something new. I am not so naïve that I believe it should be a documentary, but there is a line that separates paranormal from fantasy Facebook-20150628-023557and I would like not to cross it. So $2000 in legal bills and an agreement has yet to be made.  Then comes my book itself. I found in publishing the sequel that traditional publishers are purchasing self publishing companies. The very reason I self published was to put forth exactly what Marsha and I experienced. Now when publishing a sequel containing the experiences of my tenants, I find that my self-publishing company now is forcefully suggesting changes! “Up the chill factor” they say! I say ‘bullshit!’  On to a publisher that respects my freedom. I will skip TV, because I saw the youtube video where things were being thrown onto the set and filmed as propelled by ghosts. All ratings.

I could write on and on, but I hope my point is made. No truth will come from the entertainment industry. The last author I helped was so excited that she was accepted by a traditional publisher giving her a small advance. First, the advance is just that. They keep the royalties until the advance is met, so in effect, it is a payday loan. Second, they get certain rights to her work. Third, they suggest changes for commercial purposes. Fourth, to keep the book at a size that they believe is economical to produce they deleted 25% of her original manuscript.  Finally, they will not allow the e-book sold less than $9.99, which I find absurd, especially for a new author.  PSSSSST! Hey authors, do you not realize that movie companies HATE dealing with traditional publishers and self published books have outperformed traditional publishers for the last decade at the box office? Okay, where do investigators come in? I believe the investigators [professionals not ghost hunters] should take a larger part in publishing their work. I would like to read case studies of real paranormal encounters. Instead of hearing random EVP’s, I would like attempts made at truly exploring the boundaries of communication. Who are you? What is it like where you are? Are there others present? Are you there of your own free will? Can you leave this location? [Hey, if that answer is yes….run like hell]  Are we sharing the same space? If not, is it light or dark where you are? Is there time? How long must you stay there? Do you feel emotion? Happiness? Sadness? Fear? Loneliness?  Why can’t I see you? Is there energy I can feed you? Do you believe in God?  How long must you stay in this form? Why? Were you offered to go to the light? If/so, Why did you stay? Can I help you? Would you like to be a guest on “Beyond the White Noise?”

As a radio host, if my guest were a ghost, my questions would be educational and endless.
In the past 45 years, I have seen little change in how real paranormal knowledge has progressed. I personally am not a fan of technology and believe if you are wearing body monitors, [pulse, temp] and aware of your senses, your body will make you aware of a presence.  Believe me, when encountering a strong entity, your fight or flight instinct is triggered before you are even aware of it. Hence the pulse. Then add the technology. I would like to see investigators get serious and break barriers and not be satisfied seeing a shadow, or hearing a static like voice. I personally believe that these shadow figures could materialize if one remains resident and allows them to build energy. I truly believe that the responsibility of keeping paranormal real and breaking barriers falls on the shoulders of investigators. Finally put your findings out there for the public to read. I am currently working on “The Becker Detector” It will analyze the total atmosphere. It will sense the temperature, barometric pressure, electrical microns, humidity, air movement, light variations, oxygen variances, and more. If an entity is sensed, it will trigger a flashing light, sirens and strobes, with lasers pointing to the exact position of the presence. The current problem is my prototype weighs 1700 pounds! Yeah……lol.

Investigators, take the lead. Tell your story and push the barriers. Start thinking outside the box. Easy for me to say, because most honestly, I lack the courage to enter a zoo where the animals are invisible.
